MAC MINI 2012 I7 USATO UPGRADE
You can upgrade the RAM to a maximum of 16GB you can swap out the internal hard drive for an SSD, and even add a second drive for even more storage. On more recent models, users have been able to upgrade some bits, such as the RAM in the 2018 release, but in the 2012 model, you can go ahead and get really crazy. The 2012 model remains to this day Apple's last, properly upgradeable Mac Mini.

Here we'll walk you through breathing new life into your old Mac for not a lot of money. It remains Apple's last properly upgradeable Mac Mini, and even in 2020 can be a pretty handy little computer with the right bits inside. I only want to open my mini up the once so will only do it when I have bought both the drives. The 2012 Mac Mini held a special place in many hearts thanks to how easy it was to upgrade.
MAC MINI 2012 I7 USATO INSTALL
Not sure on the timescale but ultimately I want to install a Samsung MT9 2TB hard drive (£70) and a 240GB SSD (£75-£80) then create a 2.2TB Fusion drive. That would take some explaining to the wife as all she would see is a mini the same as my old one but slower and more expensive.

My problem is I'm used to the extra speed so if I don't use my SSD my i7's going to feel slower than my i5 for things like boot up times. I'm guessing you run PMS and home theatre on your mini? As you've got a 12 month warranty on your mini and you haven't experienced SSD speeds I would just make do for a year as you've still got an awesome little machine. You said your i7's already rocking 16GB ram?, so I guess the only other upgrade you could do is get an SSD. EBuyer do it for £44, but to be honest a 256GB drive would be better value at around £75.
